Most hair colouring products involve some level of bleach, whether you're colouring your hair at home or with the help of a specialist.

Bleach is still one of the simplest and fastest ways to remove pigment from your hair strands, and for good reason.

Changing your hair colour with bleach, on the other hand, comes with a cost. Bleach is a harsh intruder that tears down the proteins in your hair to change the colour.

The hair cuticle — the layer that keeps in moisture — has been damaged, which is why bleached hair looks "fried" or frizzy.

Your hair is more susceptible to sun and heat damage after being bleached.

Use Caution While Dealing With Chlorine
